Las Vegas, Nev. – Japan cemented its dominance at the 2024 U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships, capturing gold medals in the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles Finals.

In the Women’s Doubles Final, Asuka Sasao and Reina Aso emerged victorious, defeating fellow Japanese players Minami Ando and Kotomi Omoda in three games, 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-8).

“We’ve been playing together for three years, and our personality and teamwork are a good match, that’s why we played well together,” commented Sasao after the victory.

Sasao and Aso, teammates in Japan’s T-League, showcased their experience and skill, controlling the game from start to finish. Their dominance throughout the Women’s Doubles event underscored throughout the event.

In the Men’s Doubles Final, Japan’s Seiya Numamura and Tonin Ryuzaki continued the nation’s stellar performance, defeating South Korea’s Junghwa Seo and Yeneung Kim, 3-0 (11-8, 13-11, 11-8).

Numamura and Ryuzaki, both 25 years old, have been playing together since their college days. Ryuzaki, a member of the Shizuoka Jade in Japan’s T-League, and Numamura relied on their and phenomenal team chemistry to secure their first U.S. Open gold medal.

Their left-hand-right-hand pairing allowed for consistent openings and powerful forehand finishes, leaving their Korean opponents with too few opportunities to counter.

Earlier in the week, Japan also claimed gold in the Mixed Doubles Final, with Koyo Kanamitsu and Minami Ando (of T-League’s Top Otome Pingpongs Nagoya) defeating Masaki Takami (Kanazawa Port) and Fuwa Yumoto to win the title.

Japan ran away with gold medals in all three major doubles events, solidifying their dominance at the 2024 U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships.
