USA Table Tennis 2025 National Team Adult Athlete Selection Procedures
OVERVIEW
Athletes will be selected to the U.S. National Adult and Junior teams in 2025 based on their National Team Ranking as determined by points earned from their world ranking and placement in ranking events in the U.S. These ranking events are the U.S. Open, U.S. Nationals, two Ranking Tournaments and two Regional Championships (for Junior National Team only). The point values earned for world ranking and each ranking event finish can be found here.
The ranking list with individual point values earned will be refreshed weekly, within 48 hours after the release of the WTT world rankings for that week. The list will be published on the USATT website and visible to the public.
Players ranked in the top eight during any published update will retain their status as National Team members for a minimum of 6 months following the date of the release of the update. The current number of National Team members will be dynamic depending on the performance of eligible players in world ranking and U.S. ranking events throughout the year.
The Adult National Teams for 2025 will be:
- US Men’s National Team
- US Women’s National Team
POINTS OFFERED FOR WORLD RANKING AND EVENT FINISHES
Points will only be given for specific minimum ranking or event finishes. Finishes and rankings below these amounts will not receive any points.

- Adult National Team Trials #1 Placement
- Adult National Team Trials #2 Placement
- U.S. Nationals Performance in Men’s/Women’s Singles
- U.S. Open Performance in Men’s/Women’s Singles

The international events for the 2025 National Teams are:
- Pan Am Championships
- World Championships
- Any events not entered directly by ITTF using World Rankings
- All WTT events (excluding WTT Smash and Champions) requiring player entries to be approved by USATT
DURATION OF POINTS EARNED
World Ranking: Points earned from World Ranking will change with each world ranking release. Only the most current world ranking will be used for points earned.
US Open / US Nationals: Points earned from US Open or US Nationals will remain until the next US Open or US Nationals. For example, a player’s points earned at the US Nationals will continue to count towards their ranking until the next US Nationals, one year later. At any one time, a player can have points from one US Open and one US Nationals count towards their ranking. Only the results from the most recent US Open or US Nationals will count towards the ranking. Points from the US Open or US Nationals expire at the beginning of the event of the next year’s US Open or US Nationals.
US Ranking Tournaments: Players can retain points for a maximum of two US Ranking Tournaments at one time. For example, a player’s points earned at the Quarter 1 US Ranking tournament will continue to count towards their ranking until the next Quarter 1 US Ranking Tournament. The same is true for the Quarter 2 Ranking Tournament.
ELIGIBILITY
Only players who are eligible to represent the U.S. in International Events for the 2025 National Team will be included in the US National Team Rankings. Non-eligible players who earn points in the events, will not be included.

“Thank you for your feedback. We want to reiterate that the new system isn't just about adding more events, but about providing greater opportunities and giving parents and athletes the flexibility and autonomy to make informed decisions about how they compete and prioritize their time and resources.
We understand that for the U11 and U13 categories, building interest and participation in the sport is more important than international performance. Therefore, we will remove the World Ranking and US Open from these age groups. For the U15, U17, and U19 categories, all criteria will remain the same, except for a 50% reduction in US Open points. In addition, to encourage athletes' efforts, we will increase the National team size to at least 8 players.
Our goal is to create a structure that allows athletes the freedom to shape their journey based on their personal goals and circumstances, while ensuring that those with the talent and drive can achieve the highest levels of success.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in the sport.”
