Amy Wang (USA) advanced to the Women’s Singles semifinals with a hard-fought victory over Gaoyang Liu (GER) in a seven-game quarterfinal thriller. Gaoyang Liu was the 2014 Youth Olympic Champion, winning gold for China the same year Lily Zhang (USA) clinched bronze. Wang, the reigning Women’s Open Singles Champion won 4-3 (12-10, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8).
Wang acknowledged her nerves and Liu’s skill during the closely contested match.
“Coming into this match, I thought I had no chance. In the fourth game, I was up 4-1, and I thought, okay, I got this! But then I lost ten points in a row and thought, no, I don’t got this. I knew this was going to be a seven-game match after that,” Wang remarked.
Despite the tension, Wang remained composed, capitalizing on Liu's mistakes to secure her place in the semifinals. She will face Yan Guo (CHN), who staged an upset against tournament favorite Nina Mittelham (GER) in five games (11-9, 7-11, 11-5, 17-15, 11-8).

Reigning U.S. Open Champion Jinbao Ma (USA) is on track to defend his title after an extraordinary comeback against Taehyun Kim.
On his path to a championship repeat, Ma mirrored his quarterfinal performance last year, returning from the depths of three game deficit. Ma overturned a three-game deficit to win 4-3 (8-11, 2-11, 1-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8, 12-10) for the reverse sweep.
“It was the same last year. In the quarterfinals, I was down three games. I just didn’t rush myself. I focused on every point, stayed calm mentally, and kept challenging myself,” Ma reflected on his remarkable comeback.
Ma will face Kayama Yu in the semifinals. Yu earned his place with an impressive six-game victory over 2022 U.S. Open Men’s Champion Kou Lei.
