The 2022 ITTF Pan Am Championships have come to a close, and bringing home the gold medal for USA in Women’s Doubles are Amy Wang and Rachel Sung.

Starting in the Women’s Doubles Round of 16, ten of the best teams in the Americas worked their way through the finals. USA was one of six teams with an opening-round bye, joined by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, and Puerto Rico.

The women of USA began their championship run against Argentina’s Candela Molero and Camila Arguelles. The Argentinians took two matches in the best of five but found themselves overpowered by the young American duo of Wang and Sung.

Moving into the Semi-finals, Cuba was next on the match sheet looking to upset Wang and Sung, though Wang and Sung swiftly dealt with their Southern neighbors.

As the matches continued for USA, the Brazilian Women’s Team was breezing through their side of the tournament bracket on their way to the finals. Caroline Kumahara and Bruna Takahashi were locked in to make the finals after sweeping Puerto Rico.

USA meeting with Brazil in the finals was the reoccurring theme of the team-oriented event categories at this year’s Pan American Championships. Women’s doubles proved destined to be no different.

The gold medal victory for USA was by no means at the expense of the skill and determination of Brazil. Although Kumahara and Takahashi fiercely competed and kept the match close, the lefty/righty combination of Wang and Sung was too strong to be upended by Brazil.

The 2022 Pan Am Women’s Doubles Championship title deservingly belongs to Amy Wang and Rachel as USA brings home the gold medal 3-2 (7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-13, 12-10) finishing in five games.
