Ian Seidenfeld and Jenson Van Emburgh have successfully advanced to the quarterfinals in Men’s Singles at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. With their victories in the Round of 16, both U.S. athletes are now one step closer to reaching the podium at South Paris Arena.

“I knew it’d be tough, but I was happy I played to the level I did, given my nerves for the match. I was just focused every single point, worked hard every single point, and played really well. Overall, my level was better than his today,” Seidenfeld remarked.

Seidenfeld secured his spot in the Men’s Singles Class 6 quarterfinals by defeating Martin Perry of Great Britain in straight games. Although Seidenfeld led from the start, his only challenge came in the third game, where he was down by four points. However, he quickly adjusted and closed out the match, winning in three straight games.

Seidenfeld will face Class 6 world rank no. 4, Alvaro Valero of Spain in the quarterfinals at the South Paris Arena tomorrow, September 3.

In the Men’s Singles Class 3 Round of 16, Van Emburgh defeated Sylvain Noel of France in a match that ended three games to one. Despite trading the first two games and the strong support Noel received from the French crowd, Van Emburgh managed to push through and secure his place in the next round.

“It felt good, I’m happy to get though it to get the nerves and the butterflies out. It was a new experience for, I’ve never been in front of a crowd like that before, it gave me a lot of energy good and bad.” Van Emburgh said.

Van Emburgh be up against Class 3 world rank no. 7, Yeongjin Jang of South Korea in the quarterfinals tomorrow, September 3.
