USA Women’s Table Tennis Team Finish Olympics in Round of 16

Paris, France – August 6, 2024 – After a multiday break after completing the singles competition, Lily Zhang, Amy Wang and Rachel Sung took to the tables at South Paris Arena for their first team match at the Olympic Games – Paris 2024. The ladies faced fifth seed, Germany, in their opening round.
Team USA lost the team match by a hair – pushing team Germany to the 5th match. The team started with a rapid 0-2 deficit in matches, but then led by Amy’s dominant win against Xiaona Shan, the team rallied to tie the match 2-2 before Rachel Sung took on Annett Kaufmann as the last match in the venue for the session. Rachel took the first game 11-6, giving Team USA a fighting chance, but wasn’t able to overcome Annett’s devastating backhand attacks, and ultimately succumbed to the German 1-3.
Progress for the women’s team, who were just one game shy of moving forward to the quarterfinals, which would have been the best finish since 2008. Disappointed, but at the same time proud of their performance, the women’s team goes home with the heads held high for a historic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
