WEST MONROE, La – USA Table Tennis (USATT) proudly announces the outstanding achievements of Amy Wang and Rachel Sung, who earned their spots to compete in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in West Monroe, Louisiana.

The inseparable pair are doubles partners, college roommates and now Team USA teammates. Wang and Sung will be making their Olympic debuts in Paris. Lily Zhang, three-time Olympian (2012, 2016, 2020), completes the team trio for this summer’s Olympic Games.

Wang did not drop a match across two days of competition and finished the trials in first place. In the crucial semi-final match on the fourth day, Wang was a class above the rest as she won against Tiffany Ke in straight game, 4-0, to secure her Olympic berth.

On the other side of the draw, Sung demonstrated her grit and fight as she faced tough competition from Sally Moyland in the semi-final match. Sung was leading three games to two and up , 10-7, in the sixth game before Moyland came back, 10-9. Sung served heavy backspin into Moyland’s backhand, which she flipped into the net. With that serve, Sung secured her Olympic dream.

Wang and Sung have been playing table tennis since they were four and five years old respectively. Now college sophomores, the two have grown up together and are the best of friends.

“We had always hoped we would qualify together but didn’t dare believe it could be real,” said Wang and Sung, speaking together.

Zhang, Wang and Sung have put forth great results as a team in the past year. The trio, along with Sally Moyland, secured the Paris 2024 team qualification quota spot at the Pan Am Championships in Havana, Cuba. They also won three medals at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023: gold in women’s teams, gold in women’s doubles and bronze in women’s singles.

With momentum in their favor, Zhang, Wang and Sung will look to make history at Paris 2024 by earning Team USA’s first Olympic medal in table tennis.
